The Tri-City Dust Devils (25-23 2H, 55-59) wrapped up a wild six-game homestand with the Eugene Emeralds (35-13 2H, 67-47) Sunday night at Gesa Stadium, where late opportunities slipped away in a 3-1 loss that handed the visitors a four-games-to-two series victory. The set showcased everything from marathon slugfests to pitching duels, but in the end, league-leading Eugene walked away in firmer control of the Northwest League’s Second Half.

Game 1 – Emeralds Strike First

The opener set the tone as Eugene used a four-run 5th inning to pull away in a 5-2 win. Tri-City’s Ryan Costeiu held strong early, but Emeralds right-hander Josh Bostick was dominant, striking out a career-high 14. LF Rio Foster drove in both Dust Devils runs, extending his hot stretch at the plate, but the home team’s five-game winning streak came to an end.

Game 2 – Record-Setting Marathon

What followed was a night fans won’t soon forget. Tri-City overcame a 7-0 first-inning hole, trading blows with Eugene in a back-and-forth slugfest that finished 19-18 in 11 innings. C Juan Flores launched a two-run walk-off homer to seal the wildest game of the pitch-clock era for Tri-City. DH Ben Gamel hit two homers (including a grand slam), and RF Rio Foster went 5-for-7 with three doubles in a game that featured 37 runs, 40 hits, and catcher Caleb Pendleton earning the win as an emergency pitcher.

Game 3 – Emeralds Edge Out Viñeros

The teams switched gears, engaging in a pitchers’ duel while Tri-City played as Viñeros de Tri-City for the final time in 2025. Chris Clark fired seven scoreless innings, but the Emeralds broke through with three runs in the 9th to win 3-0. SS Capri Ortiz collected two hits to extend his hitting streak, while 20th-round draft pick Sam Tookoian debuted with a scoreless frame.

Game 4 – Dust Devils Rally in Front of 3,421 Fans

Friday night brought fireworks both on and off the field, with Tri-City claiming an 8-6 win before a season-high crowd and the franchise’s first-ever postgame drone show. Colin Summerhill’s two-run single in the 8th turned the game, capping a late rally. RF Randy De Jesus homered earlier, and four Dust Devils posted multi-hit games. The win evened the series at 2-2.

Game 5 – Eugene Breaks Late

Saturday night saw Tri-City rally from a 3-0 deficit to tie the game, highlighted by Juan Flores’ solo homer and a daring double run on a foul-ball sacrifice fly. But the bullpen faltered late, surrendering seven runs across the final two innings in a 10-3 defeat. Eugene secured both the Second Half tiebreaker and the overall season series in the process.

Game 6 – Double Plays Doom Dust Devils

In the finale, Tri-City pushed in the late innings but came up empty in key spots, with double plays erasing chances in both the 8th and 9th. Eugene’s Josh Bostick once again silenced the Dust Devils, throwing six one-hit innings. Ryan Costeiu struck out 10 in 4.2 innings but took the loss in a 3-1 defeat. Foster stayed red-hot, hitting .458 for the week, while Summerhill extended his hitting streak to 10 games.

Series Takeaways

  • Offensive fireworks: Tri-City tallied 19 runs in one game but just four across the other five combined.

  • Emeralds’ pitching depth: Eugene’s rotation, led by Bostick and Cesar Perdomo, neutralized Tri-City in key moments.

  • Standout performers: Rio Foster’s .458 average and Colin Summerhill’s 10-game hitting streak stood out despite the team’s struggles.

  • Bullpen woes: Shortages and breakdowns in relief cost Tri-City late in multiple contests.

Sidebar: Dust Devils Spotlight

🌟 Rio Foster – Outfield Spark
Foster followed up his Northwest League Player of the Week honor in Everett with another sizzling stretch. He went 11-for-24 (.458) with four doubles and four RBI against Eugene, raising his average 34 points in just two weeks. His consistency at the top of the lineup is fueling the Dust Devils’ offense.

🌟 Colin Summerhill – Streaking Rookie
Since joining Tri-City, the Chicago native has been a steady presence. Summerhill’s single Sunday extended his hitting streak to 10 games, and he owns a .279 average with two homers and eight RBI through his first dozen games at High-A. His two-run single Friday was the series’ biggest hit.

🌟 Capri Ortiz – Steady at Shortstop
Ortiz reached base often, hitting .438 (7-for-16) with two doubles in the series. His aggressive baserunning keyed Saturday’s daring double score, and his defense at short helped anchor a Dust Devils infield that was tested throughout.

🌟 Sam Tookoian – Rookie Reliever Debut
One of the newest Dust Devils, the 20th-round Angels draft pick made his pro debut Thursday, striking out the first batter he faced. He followed it up with a 1-2-3 ninth inning Sunday, keeping his career line spotless so far.

What’s Next:

The Dust Devils now embark on their longest road trip of the year — a 12-game stretch starting Tuesday in Vancouver before heading to Spokane. They return home September 2 for the regular-season finale against Hillsboro, with playoff hopes still alive but made steeper by Eugene’s series victory.
