PASCO – Gesa Stadium was packed with energy and community spirit this weekend as the Tri-City Dust Devils went toe-to-toe with the Northwest League’s top team, the Eugene Emeralds. While the final scores didn’t swing in the home team’s favor, the series was a powerful showcase of the Dust Devils’ relentless identity.
Friday: A Dramatic Wire-to-Wire Thriller
Friday Eugene 5, Tri-City 4 Johan Macias (3-for-3, 2 RBI), Luke Schafer (6 K in 2.2 IP)

In front of a vibrant crowd of 3,313 fans, Friday night delivered an absolute classic. After falling behind early, the Dust Devils launched a furious comeback. Peter Burns ignited the home crowd with his first home run of the season—a towering shot over the left-field wall. Soon after, Johan Macias delivered a clutch two-out, two-run single to bring Tri-City within striking distance.
The human story of the night belonged to right-hander Luke Schafer. Making his stunning organizational debut, Schafer completely neutralized the Emeralds’ offense, striking out five consecutive batters and racking up six strikeouts in just 2.2 innings. In the eighth, Randy De Jesus smashed a ball deep down the line that a fierce westerly wind cruelly pushed foul, missing a go-ahead home run by mere inches. Though the tying run was left stranded in the ninth, the 5-4 battle set a tone of pure defiance.
Saturday: An Offensive Heavyweight Slugfest
Saturday Eugene 15, Tri-City 8Ryan Nicholson (4-for-5, 3 RBI), Randy De Jesus (3-Run HR)

Saturday night turned into an absolute offensive explosion at Gesa Stadium. When Eugene jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, Tri-City counter-punched immediately. Caleb Bartolero singled, Ryan Nicholson drove in a run, and Randy De Jesus sent the stadium into a frenzy with a majestic three-run blast to right-center, snatching a quick 4-3 lead. Bartolero doubled down on the momentum in the second inning with a solo shot of his own.
Though Eugene’s relentless lineup answered with a heavy third-inning surge, the Dust Devils refused to go quietly. Ryan Nicholson put together a masterful 4-for-5 night at the plate, driving in three runs to keep Tri-City within striking distance. Johan Macias capped off the night’s highlights by launching his first home run of the season in the eighth inning. While the game ended 15-8, the dugout’s “never-say-die” energy was clear until the final out.
Sunday: Scrappy Spirit to the Final Out
SundayEugene 8, Tri-City 3Matt Coutney (2-for-5), Gage Harrelson (2-for-4, RBI)
Beautiful sunshine greeted fans on Sunday afternoon, which kicked off with young ballplayers learning from their hometown heroes at the Dutch Bros Youth Baseball Clinic. On the field, the Dust Devils continued to scratch and claw against Eugene’s top-tier pitching.
Trailing early, Tri-City answered in the first inning when Ryan Nicholson lined a sharp RBI single to center to score Caleb Bartolero. Left-hander Francis Texido settled down beautifully after a tough second frame, tossing two scoreless innings to keep his team in the fight. A late eighth-inning rally featured a deep double by Matt Coutney, an RBI single from Juan Flores, and a high-speed infield single by Gage Harrelson. The 8-3 loss wrapped up a challenging series, but the individual execution gave the club plenty of building blocks moving forward.
BACK TO EVERETT
The Dust Devils now pack up their bags and head to Everett Memorial Stadium to kick off a six-game road trip against the AquaSox starting Tuesday, May 19. They will return home to Gesa Stadium on May 26 to jumpstart a massive 12-game homestand against Spokane and Vancouver.
