H1 hydroplanes roar back to Mission Bay this weekend for San Diego Bayfair powered by Samson Rope, September 12–14, 2025. Fans will experience one of the fastest courses in the world, a weekend full of racing action, and the crowning of the Bill Muncey Cup champion on Sunday.

What to expect this weekend

San Diego Bayfair is three days of testing, qualifying, heat racing, and the Bill Muncey Cup final. With speeds topping 200 mph, M ission Bay offers fans spectacular shoreline views of the world’s fastest race boats. Off the water, Bayfair delivers a festival atmosphere with live entertainment, food vendors, and family-friendly activities. Mission Bay is a one-of-a-kind venue: dredged and designed as a hydroplane racecourse. Over the decades, it has produced m ilestone moments in the sport, including Bill Muncey’s first 140+ mph lap in 1980 and Dave Villwock’s all-time lap record of 173.384 mph, set in 1999—a mark that still stands today.

Championship picture: Every point counts

The 2025 H1 championship remains wide open. With less than 800 points separating the top five drivers, San Diego Bayfair could p lay a decisive role in the title chase:

• Andrew Tate (U-91 Miss Goodman Real Estate) — Current points leader. Quick all season, but a disqualification at San Diego in 2024 p roved how costly mistakes can be here.

• Corey Peabody (U-9 Beacon Plumbing) — The defending Bill Muncey Cup champion and winner in both 2023 and 2024, aiming to k eep his San Diego streak alive.

• J. Michael Kelly (U-8 Beacon Electric) — Three-time Bayfair winner (2014, 2019, 2021) and runner-up in 2023, always strong on Mission Bay.

• Dave Villwock (U-27 Miss Apollo) — The winningest driver in H1 history and still the lap record holder at San Diego.

• Jamie Nilsen (U-11 Miss FLAV-R-PAC) — Known for his ability to win lane fights, looking to put together a breakthrough Bayfair performance.

“With the points this close, San Diego is one of the most exciting stops of the season,” said Mike Denslow, H1 chairman. “Every lap counts, and fans will see the best in the world going all-out for the Bill Muncey Cup.”
