The energy at Gesa Stadium was palpable this weekend as the Tri-City Dust Devils didn’t just play for wins; they played for their community and their heritage. Taking the field as the “Viñeros de Tri-City” in anticipation of Cinco de Mayo, the club showcased a “never-say-die” attitude that has become the hallmark of the brand. From first-ever career milestones to heart-stopping walk-offs under the Saturday night fireworks, this weekend was a testament to the resilience and spirit of PNW baseball.

Friday: A Quality Start and a Viñeros Debut

The weekend kicked off with the Dust Devils embracing their “Viñeros” alter-ego and delivering an 8-6 victory that evened the series. The story of the night was Peyton Olejnik, the tall right-hander from Indiana, who turned in a masterful quality start to earn his first-ever High-A win.

Offensively, Capri Ortiz was the spark plug, coming just a triple shy of the cycle and mashing a three-run homer that gave the home crowd plenty to cheer about. Despite a late surge from Everett, the Dust Devils’ early-inning separation—powered by a solo shot from Juan Flores—proved too much for the AquaSox to overcome.

Saturday: The Topsy-Turvy Walk-Off

If Friday was about dominance, Saturday was about drama. In a game that saw a staggering seven lead changes, the Dust Devils proved they have the stomach for high-pressure situations. The contest was a rollercoaster of emotions, featuring home runs from Matt Coutney and a series of clutch sacrifice flies that kept the Viñeros in the hunt.

With the game tied in the 9th thanks to a balk and a resilient rally, Randy De Jesus delivered the ultimate “story behind the scoreboard” moment. His walk-off single to deep left sent 2,500 fans into a frenzy just before the postgame fireworks lit up the Pasco sky. It was a victory earned through pure grit and the refusal to let a lead slip away.

Sunday: Clinching the Series with “Scull’s Session”

To secure the 4-2 series win, the Dust Devils looked to Anthony Scull on Sunday afternoon. Scull, who has been a consistent force all weekend, delivered two doubles—the second of which gave Tri-City a lead they would never relinquish in the 7th inning.

The 7-4 finale was a showcase of team execution, from Caleb Bartolero’s three-hit day to Matt Coutney’s second home run in as many games. Reliever Zachary Redner slammed the door with two scoreless innings, ensuring the Dust Devils head to Spokane with a three-game winning streak and the momentum of a hard-earned series victory.

The Road Ahead

The Dust Devils now take their show on the road to face the Spokane Indians, but they carry the spirit of Gesa Stadium with them. This weekend wasn’t just about the standings; it was about the connection between the players and the “Tri” community—a reminder that in the PNW, every inning is an opportunity for greatness.
