The Tri-City Dust Devils displayed impressive tenacity this past weekend, battling through high-stakes games against the Hillsboro Hops. While the series finale didn’t swing their way, the club demonstrated a signature “comeback” identity, successfully erasing deficits in both Friday and Saturday’s victories. As the team heads into the final stretch of the first half of the season, these hard-fought battles highlight the resilience and tactical adaptability that define their approach on the diamond.

Weekend Scoreboard

  • Saturday: Dust Devils 6, Hops 3

Weekend Highlights

  • Friday: Trailing 1-0 in the sixth, the offense erupted. A clutch RBI single from Randy De Jesus tied the game, followed by a ground-rule double from Juan Flores to take the lead. A four-run rally secured a 5-2 victory, anchored by five solid innings from starter Peyton Olejnik.

  • Saturday: The comeback magic continued when Johan Macias blasted a grand slam in the fifth inning to turn a 1-0 deficit into a 4-1 lead. Kevin Bruggeman added insurance with a timely squeeze bunt and an RBI single later in the game. Max Gieg shone in relief, tossing 3.1 scoreless innings to preserve the 6-3 win.

  • Sunday: Despite a spirited effort to complete the sweep, the Dust Devils fell 7-3. After tying the game 3-3 in the fifth inning—thanks to a sun-aided double from Randy De Jesus—the Hops surged back with a decisive two-run single from Max Kepler, ultimately holding off Tri-City’s late-inning threats.
